Only YOU can prevent lifeless photography!
When you decide to have a professional portrait done, there are two avenues you can choose from: the quick and cheap conventional studio chain, or a more customized approach from an independent studio or photographer. The quick studio option, such as a department store portrait studio, might seem like the easiest route to most people. The backdrops are basic, the print packages are affordable, and you can schedule the appointment while you’re doing your usual shopping. But let’s be honest- what happens with those posed, lifeless portraits? How many of us have more than one large envelope from one of those studios–with multiple sizes of prints peeking through the front window–laying around the house somewhere? Have we done more than frame one of the 5×7’s and stuck it on a dresser or an office desk? Are there large, beautiful canvases of those prints displayed proudly over our couches? Or 20×24 framed prints gracing the entryways to our homes? Did the $150 that we spent on those canned studio posed portraits really end up being worth it?
An amazing photographer friend of mine has begun a campaign to promote photography that reflects real life, real emotions, real people- just like you!
Professional portrait photography is taking a turn for the real- it’s becoming less posed, more personal, and more reflective of the true personalities of individuals and families. I am one of many photographers attempting to capture this new spirit of portraiture.
